The Purpose in the Pages
The Pit is not just a poetry pool of emotions for the sake of a good read. This collection is a carefully crafted mosaic compiled of many traumas, many lessons, many trials, and reminders. My goal with this project was to assemble these pieces from my life to stretch out a hand to the hopeless, to the hurting, the unseen. I wanted to lay out the raw truths and realities of the extensive depths of pain that I experienced within my suffering, because the light shines so much brighter once you've been in the dark for so long, and I want you to see the light.
This very idea is why I laid bare all the spaces that seem to be overlooked, specifically in the Christian life and community, which is a PROBLEM, considering the misinterpreted idea that Christian life is supposed to be light and seamless at all times because we have Christ. But the truth is that Christ Himself lived experiencing emotional pain as well.
"He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of many sorrows and acquainted with grief."
-Isaiah 53:3 NKJV
Not only did Jesus come into this sinful world where he would face such turmoil, but He came to heal the human wounds and take away our sin; He bore our sins and brokenness in every sense on His own physical body, a gruesome image to say the least. But it was an act of love that proves that He knows how much pain we face; how much it hurts to struggle and suffer.
So in these pages, I've put my own wounds on display, some of the ones only my God has seen. Some of the ones He has healed. And although times were dark and difficult, suffocating, traumatizing, Jesus has shown to never failed me.
I hope and pray that you find solace, that you're not alone, and that the Lord meets you where you let Him if you find yourself relating to any of the words written on the pages of The Pit.
Blessings,
Kendra
